ZAMBEZI FISHING

Imbabala is situated on the famous Zambezi River only 70 kilometres upriver from the Victoria Falls on the Kazungula flood plains at the confluence of the Chobe and Zambezi rivers

Imbabala is the only fishing and photographic lodge on this 14km section of the Zambezi river and has near exclusivity of the Zambezi between the Katombora rapids and the Botswana/Namibian borders.

Imbabala has for many years produced excellent angling for the legendary Tiger Fish, which is rated as one of the best fighting freshwater fish in the world, a reputation it fully deserves. One of the attractions lies in the fact that only around 30 % of those hooked are ever landed. The majority of tigers caught range between 2 – 6 lb., but fish of double-figures are not uncommon in these waters and each season, specimens of between 10 and 18 lb. can be landed.

5

ZAMBEZI BIRDING

Imbabala offers guests and serious birders some of the finest bird-watching on the Upper Zambezi. A wonderful mix of riverine and inland species can be seen here and

one does not have to move very far to see some of the special species that occur. Imbabala has recorded over 400 bird species making it equivalent to the best Chobe birding.

Some of the more desired species that are seen here are the Long-Toed Plover, Western Banded Snake Eagle and Swamp Bou Bou.

The summer months (September to April) generally offer the greatest variety of species as some are migratory and travel to spend these months in Southern Africa. The cooler winter months (May to August) do not offer as many species but are still fantastic with many of the water birds remaining year round.

6
